Happy Birthday Rajnikanth!

2010 was undoubtedly a wonderful year for Rajni fans. The year was filled with anticipation about Enthiran, a constant stream of rumors, photos and snippets about the film that told us how big it was going to be , the actual release of the film, satisfaction about it managing to meet the humungous expectations and hype surrounding it and finally, the film’s roaring success as evidenced by the sensational box-office collections all over the country and the world. Rajni – the man and the brand – seemed to have become even bigger than before and was showing no signs of stopping.
2011 started pretty well for us fans too. We were still basking in the afterglow of Enthiran’s success when the announcement about his next film Rana came and so we were all set for another round of anticipation, information and record-breaking success.
But then the slide started with Rajni falling ill during the puja of Rana. It was initially thought to be a simple case of dehydration that would be cleared with a few days of good rest. But it quickly became clear that that was not the case as there were multiple hospital visits of increasing duration. Rumors swirled as Rajni headed to Singapore for treatment with statements from family members and a recorded message from Rajni being the only sources of information. But the treatment was successful and his millions of fans heaved a collective sigh of relief as Rajni came back in July, cured and healthy.
But things did not look up on the professional side. The only news about Rana turned out to be postponements of the start date as it moved first to October and then to January 2012. A much-hyped cameo in Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra. One was a disaster as it didn’t even look like Rajni and the scene itself seemed hurriedly and awkwardly inserted.
Things have finally started looking up with the official announcement about Rajni’s next film Kochadaiyan. A 3D film that will use performance capture technology, Kochadaiyan is to be directed by his daughter Soundarya Rajnikanth with story, screenplay and dialogs by K.S.Ravikumar (with no mention of Sultan after so many years, name-changes and rumors, another animation film directed by Soundarya doesn’t inspire cheer and the fact that it is further delaying the start of Rana only makes it worse. Still it IS a new Rajni film…). The technical team is being assembled(A.R.Rahman, Rajiv Menon and Peter Hein are all on board so far) and Sneha has being signed on to play Rajni’s sister.
On his birthday, here’s hoping for a better 2012 both on the personal and professional side for Rajni.
Happy Birthday to the one and only Superstar!

Rajni is a Rockstar… and will always be THE SUPERSTAR. Yes, let’s hope Kochadaiyaan doesn’t see as much shelf life as Sultan.
Happy Birthday to Rajnikanth!
Yesterday’s “Neeya Naana” was entirely focused on Rajni. Check it out. It made for good viewing…
I think Rajini should forget Kochadiyan and re-team with Shankar for Endhiran 2! (or something else)….Also, am I the only one that would LOVE to see him in a crime thriller by Myskin or Gautham (although Gautham would probably be the better choice b/c his movies are more commercial)?
@Vimal I don’t want to see Endhiran 2. I hope to God that the trend of endless remakes and sequels in Hollywood does not get transported over to the Tamil Industry.
And as much as I am a Kamal fan, Rajni has shown he can act in fresh roles and still keep it commercial in his recent string of movies. I would watch the Myskin/Gautham crime thirller scenario you mentioned though. However I wonder how his larger than life image would affect the thriller aspect of it. It didn’t affect it all that much in that horror/thriller flick with Joythika (I’m forgetting the name….google … Chandramuki) so I’m sure he’d manage.
Any trailers or teasers of the movie? Plus what are the movies to look forward to in 2012? I always keep an eye on the Wiki page of Tamil Movie Releases but since its the end of the year there aren’t too many movies to look forward to. I’m sure it’ll get upgraded by late January.
You might’ve watched this before… it’s an enjoyable interview of thalaivar by his guru KB: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTeu-8JN1nw
All I could say at the end of it was, like Abbas says,: ‘What a man!’
Rajni should stop essaying roles of a youngster or a bachelor, not enjoying his dance & songs anymore, should stick to the charactors of Ragav of vettaiyadu vilayadu, middle aged matured love for his looks.
Reza,
He won’t stop unless it stops being successful for him. Even in America many of the great stars essayed roles that they were technically too old for. Everyone brings up the Amitabh Bachchan example but forget that his “hero” roles in the 1990s were financially unsuccessful. No actor willingly gives up their stardom/glamour.
I am hearing that shankar is gonna once again team up with superstar. This will be the next Rajini’s movie after kochadayan… Now Shankar is spending full time in completing the script of the movie… He also narrated the story to A R Rahman and got his call sheet… once the scripting part is over, official announcement will be made….
