Half-Day Trip – Golden Gate Park

Published by Balaji at 9:34 pm under Family, Travel

The last weekend saw the weather take a break from the rain and the storms with a couple of warm and  sunny spring-like days. So we headed out to San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park after lunch. The first stop was a pretty lake where the kids had fun walking among the large number of birds on the lakeshore.

Then we went to the Tulip Garden which is located near the west end of the park. We parked a short distance away but the walk to the garden was scenic with bright green meadows and some pretty flowers.

The Tulip Garden was located at the base of a towering Dutch windmill. The tulips had not all bloomed yet but the garden was cute and pretty. There was a wedding taking place there too.

After some hot tea and snacks, we headed back with a brief stop at another nice lake. The bonus here was a small but very pretty waterfall and a nice stroll along the small creek that led to the waterfall. This was another fun area for the kids as they jumped on the rocks and walked by the creek.

This first outing of 2010 was a fun way to spend half a day and it was hopefully just the first of many more trips this year.

u picked some nice spots, it seems…we too have a couple of vacation plans this year. One of them will be Vancouver. I saw some pictures of Vancouver…looked beautiful. We are planning to go around September timeframe…not sure if we can see some snow cladded peaks around that time. I like to see greenery at foot hills and snow at the peaks. We tried Vail, Colorado last year around August 4th week…but it seems we need to be there around first few weeks of June to see such backdrops. Vail of course was a beautiful town. One of our most cherished trips. Biking trails were just too good.

    BTW Balaji
When would be best time to see tulip blooming (begining of May??)…and what is the best location…is that in Michigan or Seattle…

You lucky people. That looks beautiful. It’s still cold and dreary in LA. Quite the opposite, it’s usually LA that’s sunny.

Chandramohan, we visited Vancouver end of August in 2006. I don’t remember snow-clad peaks but the city sure was beautiful. Went to Denver a long time ago over the Memorial Day weekend and Rocky Mountain Natl Park had the exact sight u describe.
As for tulips, I read that end Feb-early Match is the best time though there r supposed to be some late blooming varieties too.

Nikitha, actually it was exactly like that for quite a few weeks with a series of storms. was glad it finally cleared up.

    ram, LOL as always :)
