A solid if rather unremarkable, dubbed-from-Malayalam movie, dubbed no doubt to cash in on
Shalini's popularity after the mega-success of 'Kaadhalukku Mariyaadhai'.Veni(Shalini), along with her grandfather, takes refuge in the temple in Thanjavur to escape from Subramanyam, who has his eyes on Veni. Mahi(Jayaram) rescues her from the clutches of Subramanyam and when she is orphaned by the death of her grandfather, takes her back to his home. Some fun ensues as his fiancee Bharathi(Ranjitha) becomes first suspicious and then jealous of his closeness to Veni.
This is resolved when Veni reveals that her lover is actually Kichamani alias Krishnan(Dilip), who works in Coimbatore. When Mahi goes to bring him to his house, Krishnan tells him that he had killed Subramanyam and hence didn't want to meet Veni. Mahi convinces him that he is safe and takes him back.
But the police eventually winds up at their house and Mahi goes to great lengths to make sure the inspector doesn't catch Krishnan. He finally opts to give himself up as the actual killer of Subramanyam leading to the climax.
A strong story, unexpected directions the movie takes at different points and tight direction and editing help maintain our interest in the movie. But some crude jokes involving a bodily fluid in the first half and the rather cinematic climactic portions take some of the shine off. Jayaram and Shalini are pretty good and the rest of the cast does a good job too. The actor playing Jayaram's grandfather deserves special mention. All the songs have a carnatic touch and sound good and the song sequences have been picturised pleasantly.
