Vijayakanth plays a dual role in this boring movi.Duraipandi(Vijayakanth) is a village simpleton, tricked into felling sandalwood trees for a local MLA who then smuggles them along with teak and elephant tusks. But everything is being done under Duraipandi's name and its he who is arrested by the police.
The MLA plans to kill him but he escapes only to find out the the police inspector has raped and killed his sister. He kills him enters the forest to become a do-gooder terrorist (a la Veerappan).
He marries Kushboo who is then caught when she's pregnant and on the way to the hospital. She entrusts her son with Manivannan, one of the few good policemen. The boy grows up to become a policeman entrusted to bringing Duraipandi to book. All the usual cliches follow with the mother struggling between her husband and her son, son having to select betn love and duty, etc. etc.
The first half moves along nicely with Vijayakanth's flashback of why he became a terrorist. But the boring second half really drags the movie down. Vijayakanth is better as the older man with some nice makeup and voice modifications. The rest are adequate. Manivannan has some funny moments. Nothing new in Deva's music.
