Here, in reverse order (best of the worst to worst of the worst) are the 10 least watchable tamil films of 2000.
10
Chocklet
Vulgarity was the buzzword here as director relied on minimal costumes, double
entendre dialogs and crude dance movements disguised as a movie set in
a college campus. A ridiculous climax, with Prashanth coming back from the
dead, capped off the distasteful movie.
9
Looty
The director realised the hard way that infidelity is not an issue that can be
made fun of with this movie where Roja suspects her husband of cheating on her.
A convoluted, distasteful and silly climax that threw timelines out of whack was
the last straw.
8
Paarvai Ondre Pothumey
This movie wins the award for the most uncharismatic lead pair of the year
as Kunal and Monal tried to convince us that they were in love. Karan, as the
psychotic loser in the love triangle, gamely tried to prep up the proceedings.
7
Star
Confusion ruled as director Praveen Gandhi threw together several disparate
storylines in one movie. Prashanth had a silly profession of going to jail for
other people's crimes and the movie went downhill from there. Rahman displayed
his displeasure with rehashes of his Hindi tunes.
6
Alli Thandha Vaanam
The haphazard screenplay left me scratching my head as this movie lurched
from one disconnected sequence to another. The story started off with
Prabhu Deva trying to live on his own but then included a Kutty-like
story, mistaken identities, friendship and a feeble love triangle.
5
Nageswari
This was a revenge tale disguised as a devotional movie as Ramya Krishnan
came back from the dead to avenge the men who killed her. As with all
Rama.Narayanan movies, the graphics were overused and cheesy.
4
Love Channel
This movie proved how much the screenplay matters to a movie as it took
a story with similarities to Dum Dum Dum and proceeded to make
it unwatchable. The underperforming lead pair and loud comedy just
increased our pain.
3
Sri Raja Rajeswari
This movie turned out to be a mix of two earlier movies with a revenge tale(Nageswari)
alongwith the story of a woman trying to win back her husband(Thaali Kaatha
Kaaliamman). Unfortunately it only managed to take the worst of those two movies
and as a result, was twice as bad as either of them.
2
Engalukkum Kaalam Varum
The director achieved the almost impossible task of bringing together the three
leading comedians of the day and not eliciting even a single laugh from any of them.
Vivek, Vadivelu and Manivannan struggled with the unfunny script while the audience
screamed "Indha torture thaange mudiyalaye" alongwith Vivek.
1
En Sakhiye
Logic was of no concern in this film that had new faces both behind and in front
of the camera. None of the characters behaved as people do in the real world and
I was laughing almost throughout the movie(that was actually based on Hindi hit
Baazigar).
